A Safe Return

As of 2022, Kanawha county schools has made masks a choice in all schools. If at any time this would change, these may be some of the changes that would be put into place to keep all students and staff safe. Marmet Elementary has made many changes to ensure the safety of our staff and students. Students who ride buses are dropped off well before those who ride in cars, so that we can limit the number of students entering the building together. Hand sanitizer is given out as the children enter the building, as well as throughout the day. No visitors are permitted in the building.

Breakfast is served in the classrooms, to avoid the crowd in the cafeteria and students eat lunch at staggered times to allow distancing int he cafeteria. Students are adequately space during lunch and a movie is played to entertain, since they are too far away from classmates to talk at a reasonable volume. This also prevents the spread of saliva which would be emitted, if the children were to talk loudly.

All students and adults must be masked at all times and distancing is encouraged as they travel through the halls to lunch. Special classes, such as gym, counseling, library, music, and art are taught in the classrooms to prevent different groups of students from using the same classrooms.

Water fountains are closed and water bottle fillers are used instead. East child has been issued a water bottle bottle for their own personal use. Classrooms have seating charts to help with contact tracing, classrooms are cleaned while the students are out for lunch, surfaces are sanitized throughout the day, classes may not share the playground.
